SUMMA Frequently Asked Questions
Which data center do you use?
We currently have servers at theplanet.
What is uptime?
Uptime means as it denotes the time that your web site is up. In a perfect
world where hardware never has problems we would have 100% uptime. We
provide an uptime guarantee of 99%. Please see our uptime guarantee
for more information.
What would be involved in moving my domain from the existing location
to your servers?
The process of moving your site over to us is very simple. All you have
to do is update your DNS to point to ns1.summamarketing.com and ns2.summamarketing.com.
This update process usually takes 24 - 72 hours to then point to your
new account. Once the domain name is pointing to our server you should
then cancel your other hosting account. If you want us to renew your
domain for you it will require you to do a domain transfer to us. We
will help you through that process when you are read.
What if I do not want to manage my own account?
We offer full-service
hosting available through SUMMA
Marketing.
What is space and transfer?
Server Space is the amount of space that your website, databases, email
and scripts take up on our Server. HTML pages do not usually take up
much space but Movies and Music files can take up considerable space
and should be used cautiously.
Bandwidth/Transfer is the amount of data that is allowed to be sent
by your site per month. If you find that your bandwidth for your account
is being used up quickly then you can upgrade your account or buy additional
bandwidth at any time.
Do you provide co-location services?
No we do not provide co-location services.
Do you provide Domain Name registration?
Yes, you can purchase the following domain name extensions .com, .net.,
.org, .name, .us, .biz, .info, .cn, .cc, .tv, and .in.
How long does it take for my domain name to point to my account?
It takes a maximum of 72 hours to propagate your domain name world wide.
What is propagation?
Propagation is the period of time, or delay, involved in sending your
domain's address information to all the various name servers in the
world. Name servers intentionally keep track of addresses for domains
in their memory for a specific period of time (defined by the administrator
of the name server). This speeds up the process of looking up an address
for a domain name. Unfortunately this "cached" information
also stays in the name servers when it has been changed at the source
of the original information (the domain's registrar).
Name servers refresh themselves from once an hour to once a day. Experience
dictates that 3 days is a good estimate for the period of time from
when a domain's DNS information is changed at the domain registrar to
when everyone in the world can see the change.
Do I need to buy my domain name from SUMMA to get hosting?
No you can purchase your domain name anywhere and use us for hosting.
You will just need to update your namesevers to point to our server
or we will transfer your account and manage it for you.
How quickly can my account be setup?
This can take up to a maximum of 48 hours based on the number of orders
we have.
Facts about free email accounts:
Accounts like Google's Gmail read through your mail and target ads
to words and content contained in your personal messages. SUMMA hosting
accounts are completely private.
Most SPAM comes from free email accounts like Yahoo Hotmail. Do you
want your email to be mistaken for SPAM?
By using a free email account (yourname1234@hotmail.com) you are
missing an important branding opportunity for your business. Using SUMMA
hosting (yourname@yourbusiness.com) is an opportunity to advertise your
brand or website everytime you send or receive email.
Free email accounts are temporary and make your business look temporary
too.
Many businesses, blogs and web registration forms do not allow the
use of free email accounts.
Free email accounts are a spammers paradise. They use dictionary
methods to find accounts to send SPAM to.
Free email accounts often ad a tagline at the end of all your email
messages which amounts for free advertising in your business or personal
communications. With SUMMA hosting there are no ad taglines unless you
want to create one for your own business.
Yahoo's message: "Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - 250MB free storage.
Do more. Manage less. http://info.mail.yahoo.com/mail_250"
Hotmail's message: "Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail
at http://www.hotmail.com".
Many free email providers have been blacklisted by ISPs. What this
means is that your email messages will never get through to your intended
recipient because of SPAM abuse.
